IZZY, THE CBs, AND THE UBIQUITY
Izzy, The CBs, and The Ubiquity
by Gary J. Beharry
Summary
Follow the Ten Commandments . . . or else!
What if God decided to give priests the power to punish the Commandment Breakers? What if the physical manifestation of your sin became your punishment?
Nathan Carver, a ten-year-old boy, only wants the love of his father, Jerry. There is just one problem: his father is not sure Nathan is his son, since Nathan's family became one of the first families to experience the power and punishment of God's Commandment Breaker Patrol. Nathan has a twin brother, Izzy, born out of the sin of their mother, Lydia's, adultery. Izzy derives great pleasure in banishing his twin brother to Hell for the heck of it, as well as monopolizing their father's visitation time. The family has finally reached its breaking point. The estranged Carver family find themselves on the opposite side of the law, God's law, and they must find a way to band together to absolve their sins—or they may have to pay the ultimate sacrifice.
"Can you feel it, young Nathan?" Brother Liam's grip hardened once again on Nathan's shoulder. He used his other hand to point Nathan's head toward a house. "They are sinning, inside their very home. Thou shall not steal!"
Brother Liam pulled a shiny white stone from the inside of his robe. He squeezed it in his hands, made the Sign of the Cross in front of the house, and pelted the stone at the door. Nathan marveled as the stone seemed to melt into the door. Upon contact, red spread like a spilled glass of wine. The whole door turned crimson; then a flash of red light jumped from the door to wires attached to the side of the house. Bright blue sparks traversed the wire leading from the house to the cable box on top of the nearest utility pole. The pole sizzled, and the metal box morphed from silver to white to red. Then, the entire apparatus: pole, box, and wire, lit aflame. The wire snapped from the house and entwined itself around the pole.
