Captive Angel By Wendy Stone

Summary

When a young and beautiful doctor is kidnapped from her hospital parking lot, she finds herself fighting for more than just her own life. There is a gorgeous specimen of a male who also needs her expert, healing touch. Can this Angel of Mercy find a way out for the two of them?

Excerpt

With a suddenness that startled a shriek out of her, he turned, pressing her against the wall, his hand grabbing her other wrist and holding them pinned beside her shoulders. His body leaned against hers, his lips holding her mouth captive while he feasted on her flavor.

She tasted of coffee and mint, and dark passion that enticed him to explore further, his tongue rubbing against her own with an intimacy that had her heart pounding and her head swimming. Her breath came in harsh pants against his skin, her hands fighting his grip, wanting to touch him, to stroke all that male flesh that had been driving her mad this past week. But he wouldn't release her hands, instead, rubbing against her, spreading her jean clad thighs with his leg until he could push against her sex with his knee. He found the seam of her jeans, using it to stimulate her until she moaned under his lips.

He tore his mouth from hers, staring down into her half open, sleepy green eyes. "I want you," he growled, pressing his groin against her to emphasize the statement.

"Yes," she managed to whisper before his lips were on hers again, but this time, he released her wrists, his hands going to her waist, holding her against him, pulling at the long sleeved T-shirt that she had tucked into her jeans. He pulled it out slowly, seeming to tease her with his movements, causing her stomach to flutter in delight.

Angelina Carter and Aaron Hunter have both been captured by a madman who has, and is going, to torture them to the extreme to get what he wants. They have to get away from him and quick, but even if they do, Sebastian has a terrible secret that may just tear apart the love Aaron and Angelina will come to develop. Will the fragile bond be strengthened or will their scarred pasts shatter their future? Angelina,, or Angel as she is called, is an emergency room physician. She is kidnapped while walking out to her car one night. Sebastian, the sick man behind the capture wants her so that she can heal his other prisoner back to health in order to torture him again. What Angel sees shocks even her, and that’s hard to do. The man is bruised, broken and severely beaten, but underneath all that she sees him to be strong and handsome. She fights to save his life, but not because she has been promised freedom if she does, but because she cannot stand to see another human being suffer so terribly.

Hunter has no idea why he was kidnapped and tortured. He knows Sebastian wants something out of his father’s journals, but the bastard won’t tell him what it is he is looking for, and if Hunter doesn’t come up with answers soon his short life is going to be over. While he begs Angel to let him die, he secretly fights to live for revenge, and because he wants to help his beautiful savior to get out of the prison they are in, and well maybe to show her his gratitude too.

Captive Angel had me on the edge of my seat the entire read. I'm a sucker for a book with the heroine being in the medical field. Angel is strong, she doesn’t whine or cry at what life has thrown her and she doesn’t wait for a man to rescue her. I also like that Hunter and Angel develop feelings pretty evenly throughout the novel and neither falls instantly in love, it is actually given time to grow, and the reader will really feel this bond. The two of them do instantly decide on one thing however, and that is to escape the madman holding them captive, and when they do, look out, they are a powerhouse to contend with. The escape is one of my favorite scenes in the book. Be warned though, if you have a weak constitution about torture, or attempted/implied rapes, this book might make you a little squeamish. Be that as it may, Wendy Stone really did a good job of not only developing great characters but a great world, as this novel is number one out of three. My only issue with the story is that after Angel and Hunter escape, Sebastian ends up kidnapping Hunter's sister. When they find this out it seems like they take their time getting her, which is insane because they both know what he is capable of doing. Warning, this is the part of the story that you may be uncomfortable with. However, I didn't let it detract from the story line and thought to myself, wow what if Shanna (Hunter's sister) actually had her own story. Low and behold, she does. I'll be reading that one as soon as possible. Wendy Stone has a great start with Captive Angel and hopefully will only get better from here.

Two people on different sides of the United States find themselves at the mercy (like he has any) of an apparent madman. Angelina Carter is a doctor in Michigan. She is abducted out of the parking lot at the hospital she works at and after a delightful journey in what can only be a coffin, finds herself in a mansion being threatened with death, or worse, if she doesn't do what her captor demands. His demand? Heal the man chained in his basement. Rape, followed hopefully by death are her other options if she refuses to cooperate. She takes door number one.

Aaron Hunter has been trapped and a victim of Sebastian Antonelli's cruel practices for an indeterminate amount of time. The man wants something from him, but just seems to enjoy torturing him rather than ask for it. Now practically at death's door, Hunter is finally going to escape his tormentors clutches the only way he can; by dying. But then he opens his eyes, and sees an Angel..

If there was something missing from this story, I couldn't find it. I absolutely adored it. Both characters were fascinating. Hunter was strong, alpha and determined, but still able to show his emotions without being an ass. Angel was no-nonsense and practical, but still able to lose her head over a hot guy. Full of action, bad guys, hot unprotected sex (she's a doctor and doesn't know what's going to happen?!) and an equally intriguing developing second story about Hunter's sister and best friend, I was hooked until I put the book down. My only frustration with this story is that there is obviously more to come. While Hunter and Angel have their personal happy ending, the ongoing mystery of Sebastian, his goal, and the developing story of Shanna and Brandon left me panting with expectation. Not a bad result from a book from an author's point of view. I'm (not so patiently) waiting...
